Corporate Comedy Videos and Recreating Netflix for Teachers
In early September 2019 I was asked by the Anaheim Elementary School District to come up with a program to fit into their yearly staff development day. The first thing we discussed was creating a long comedy music video of teachers and staff lip syncing to a popular song. I was on board, but that very video has already been created a few years before. Ripping it off seemed to be a little too easy. I wanted to deliver what they wanted, but also more!
What if we not only parodied the previous music video, but an entire collection of pop culture classics? But how to tie them all together? If only there was a place where people saw a collection of films and tv shows all in one place.
Like Netflix! But…
AESDFLIX
I used After Effects to create the famous Netflix intro animation and incorporate the AESD logo.
They said as long as I can incorporate the theme of “Amazing AESD” into the videos and made the music video which included nearly the entire 2,500 people of the AESD Staff, I could do it!
Working with staff from the technology department, we brainstormed different popular shows and how we could tie in the entire school district. I spent every weekday morning and afternoon from September to October visiting all of AESD’s 23 schools as well as all of their administrative departments filming these sketch videos all over Anaheim.
And just like any Netflix binge, you have to choose what you’re going to watch.
Custom Netflix Menu
Using Photoshop and After Effects, I created a menu to go through a bunch of fake titles using some of the staff members’ pictures.
The District Office
I recreated the intro from NBC’s The Office to take place in the AESD District Office using their various departments.
CABINET Intro
Teachers can’t always take the spotlight. Sometimes the administration likes to be the center of attention too! Here we recreated the introduction scene to Friends.
Amazing Things
This is my favorite of the series. Creating the set and lighting was so much fun and the enthusiastic administrator we had playing the teacher does a phenomenal job with no previous acting skills.

El Mundo es Amazing
This was a new one for me. Having little familiarity with Novellas, I had to do some research. Somehow, this one is even more over the top given we incorporate Korean.

After visiting all of the sites at the district, it’s hard for me to choose which segment was my favorite. Everyone involved really put a lot of effort into making this music video possible. From dressing up to coordinating school buses, this was a huge effort by nearly all of the staff of AESD.
